Committees and Working Groups

Executive Committee:
Management committee is elected at each AGM make responsible and accountable decisions on behalf of members, advising membership accordingly and as per the requirements of the WCBIA Constitution.

Compliance Committee:
The Compliance Committee comprises relevant industry stakeholders and nominated industry representatives with relevant background to monitor and respond to all issues relating to membership compliance in accordance with the standards set down in the WCBIA Certification Rules.

Standards Committee:
The Standards Committee comprises relevant industry representatives and members of the WCBIA who consult accordingly in order to establish and monitor best practice standards for Marine Tourism in the Whitsundays.  Currently systems and auditing processes are being developed to rate vessels according to crew, facilities and service standards.

Policy and Procedure Review Committee: 
The Policy and Review Committee comprises nominated and volunteer representatives of the WCBIA who are responsible for monitoring and reviewing policies, procedures, by-laws and other relevant processes to ensure effective and professional governance of the Industry Association.

Site Management Planning and Consultative Committee:
This Committee currently is addressing the Hill Inlet Issue including Tongue Bay, Chance Bay and Whitehaven Beach. WCBIA is proactively involved with government agencies to ensure a vigilant and proactive approach is taken to protecting the environment while providing a quality experience for all tourists to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in the Whitsunday region. Blue Pearl Bay has been monitored in accordance with the WCBIA developed Blue Pearl Bay Operational Procedures. This document has been support by various government departments.

Climate Change Action Committee:
This committee under its charter will responsible for ensuring the WCBIA’s commitment to best practice principles in environmental protection, management and sustainability particularly in and on the marine and island national parks.

The key goal is to reduce the marine tourism industry’s carbon footprint.  Climate Change and continued best practice in environmental management is a priority for association and relevant initiatives will be shared in partnership with the wider industry and government agencies to ensure increased education, awareness and up-take of environmental management to ensure a sustainable future.
