The objective of the vessel rating system is to drive the behaviour of vessel owners and masters.

The behaviour sought is one where owners and masters are actively delivering a safety culture that is way above and beyond the minimum regulatory requirements. The measurement of behavioural performance will be against other vessels in the Whitsunday fleet. Vessels that are clearly below the standards of other vessels will be required to improve or risk loss of WCBIA membership.

The rating system comprises the following documents:

Vessel Detail and Summary Sheet

Definitions of Rules & Guidelines

Auditors’ quantitative and qualitative checklist

Customer service ratings as well as the audit will in the longer term underpin the vessel rating system and will be conducted in conjunction but through a separate process.

Measurement will initially be by an independent auditor to ensure a balanced and consistent interpretation of each vessels characteristics and the efforts made by the owner and master towards a generative safety culture on the vessel.
